Tamar Island Wetlands

Nature Reserve

Tamar Island sits in the Tamar River just upstream from Launceston, connected to the western shore by a boardwalk that crosses through sedgelands and paperbark wetlands. It’s a few minutes from the CBD, but the reserve has the feel of somewhere much further away — still water, birdcall, and the soft light that comes off a tidal river at the end of the afternoon.

For a small, intimate ceremony close to Launceston without venturing into the wilderness, Tamar Island is a thoughtful and genuinely lovely choice. It won’t suit large groups, but for an elopement or micro-wedding it’s quietly exceptional.

Bookings through Parks Tasmania. All guests require a valid park pass.
