Maria Island National Park

National Park

Maria Island is car-free, unhurried, and genuinely unlike anywhere else in Tasmania. The ferry from Triabunna takes about 30 minutes, and on arrival the island offers everything from the Georgian convict buildings at Darlington — a UNESCO World Heritage site — to white sandy beaches, painted cliffs, and wombats wandering the settlement at dusk.

For a ceremony, the options are quietly extraordinary: the old penitentiary courtyard, the beach at Darlington, a clifftop above Bishop and Clerk, or any number of spots along the island’s coastal tracks. Accommodation is limited and rustic, which naturally keeps gatherings small and intimate.

All guests arrive by ferry and require a valid Tasmania Parks pass. Book through Parks Tasmania at least four weeks before the date.
