Clyde Mill Distillery & Kitchen sits among open paddocks on the banks of the Clyde River outside Bothwell — a small town of Georgian character set in the Central Highlands landscape that feels more like rural Scotland than anywhere else in Tasmania. The convict-built sandstone mill, working distillery, and surrounding farmland create an atmosphere that is genuinely timeless and unpretentious.

The mill is owned by the Ramsay family, long-time locals whose roots in the Central Highlands run deep. Day-to-day the venue is run by Jayne and Andy — a husband-and-wife team with decades of hospitality experience. Andy leads the kitchen with honest, generous cooking; Jayne oversees weddings and guest experience. Together they create celebrations that feel personal, grounded, and quietly unforgettable. This isn’t a styled backdrop built for photos — it’s a real place, cared for by people who understand its past.

Clyde Mill specialises in intimate weddings and elopements, with the flexibility to scale up for larger celebrations on the surrounding grounds. Indoor sit-down capacity is 50 guests; standing receptions using both indoor and outdoor areas can accommodate up to 150. For larger weddings, the grounds allow for marquee celebrations. Elopements and small gatherings are held in The Long Room. The Old Mill Wedding package offers exclusive use of the indoor spaces for up to 50 guests. Full venue hire of the mill and grounds starts from $3,500.

Food is central to the experience — seasonal menus prepared on-site, with Clyde Mill whiskies and gins, Tasmanian wines, and local beers available through a dedicated bar. Optional add-ons include whisky or gin tastings and mill tours. The venue can also host gatherings around your wedding day: pre-wedding get-togethers, hens’ and grooms’ lunches, and next-day brunches. All weddings conclude by 10:30pm.
